夕阳西沉时,海面被落日余晖映照得波光粼粼,维多利亚港迎来极具诗意的时刻:两岸的高楼大厦灯光渐次亮起,海面上一艘夺目的红色中式木帆船徐徐驶过……这“一抹红”成为维港标志性一幕,让不少访港旅客印象深刻。
“在香港的高楼之间登上了一艘江湖慢船,现代繁华与传统情怀在这片海面上完美交融。”来自上海的旅客顾佳宁看着海面上的“张保仔号”感慨道。
一双巧手,将参天原木打造成可扬帆出海的木船。这艘独具香港文化特色的传统中式木帆船,就是“张保仔号”帆船,由香港光明船厂第三代传人区世杰和他的父亲区渭手工打造。
走进筲箕湾阿公岩,一排铁皮屋尽入眼帘,绿色招牌上写着“光明船厂”四个大字。船厂共有两层,底层较昏暗,铺满木材及拖船工具,连接着室外小码头。采访当日,平日在维港穿梭的“张保仔号”停泊在船厂外的小码头等待日常检查。
记者跟随区世杰回到船厂内部,他打开一个精致木箱,从一叠叠牛油纸中抽起一卷,小心翼翼地摊开——这正是当年“张保仔号”的图纸,上面各类数字、形状等皆有详细标注。

“张保仔号”诞生于2006年,彼时的船厂因订单减少陷入经营困难。“偶然经人介绍,有一个客户要订做一艘营业船,但因为结构特别复杂,业内少有人敢接单。”看到设计图纸后,连经验丰富的这对父子也犯了难。
“张保仔号”高高竖起的三根桅杆,帆布张扬,与以往营业船相去甚远。区世杰介绍,与钢铁船或纤维船相比,木船在海浪过后能更快恢复平稳,夏天船舱内温度也更舒适。用多长多厚的木头、怎样处理、要刨掉多少,都靠师傅判断。“即使是0.5厘米的误差,都足以令木板无法接合、发生漏水。”
“这是我从业以来第一次做体积如此庞大的营业船。”区世杰说。
出于“大胆试试,总好过倒闭”的念头,父子俩耗时约9个月建成“张保仔号”。这一当年为维持船厂经营接下的订单,从此成为区世杰引以为傲的作品。“看着自己做的这艘标志性中式帆船,在维港上载着世界各地的乘客看香港风景,真的很自豪。”
香港开埠后成为亚洲重要的贸易转口港,维多利亚港的船只络绎不绝,也造就了香港造船业的蓬勃发展。
光明船厂由区世杰的外祖父于20世纪50年代创立,再由其父亲区渭接手。区世杰从13岁起和父亲学习造船技术,经手的大小船只数十艘。父亲并非采用传统的“手把手”教学,而是让他在不同工序中担任“补位帮手”,在实践中积累经验。
“起初总想尝试走捷径,省略复杂的工序,结果犯错只能推倒重来。其实造船和做人一样,要稳扎稳打。”区世杰说。
他回忆说,上世纪80年代是船厂鼎盛时期,除六七个自家伙计外,还要聘请三四十名工人一同帮忙,才得以应付造船订单。香港海面上有五成至六成营业船出自这里,它们接载游客、居民、工人等往返各地,其中包括久负盛名的海上餐厅珍宝海鲜舫的接驳艇。
然而,随着较为轻便的新型船只兴起,传统手工木船由于原料价格昂贵等原因,历经三代人传承的船厂生意逐渐下滑,市场上造船的需求近乎绝迹,船厂业务主要从造船转为维修船只、清洗船底等。
如今,六旬的区世杰已经是香港造船业内较为年轻的造船师傅。他笑言,自己能做多少就做多少。近几年,陆续有团体到船厂参观,区世杰也准备了许多香港在中式帆船制造方面的小故事,希望让更多年轻人对这项技艺产生兴趣。
区世杰兴致勃勃地带着记者上了船厂二楼,过去35年他居住在此。千帆过尽,岁月静好,平日他会在这里组装不同样式的中式帆船。这方天地也成为他的“私人珍藏馆”,摆满各式各样的船模型,“张保仔号”模型赫然在列。
“我始终觉得中式帆船是最漂亮的。”区世杰目光灼灼,毫不掩饰对中式帆船的喜爱。他依然期待着有机会再现香港制造的精湛技艺,让更多中式帆船在维港扬帆。
